Ko-Fi is a platform that helps creatives like me find monetary support from their audience, while offering their passion and skillsets in return. Support can be offered by way of monthly subscription, one-off tips, or by simply sharing (hugely helpful). ➡ So, firstly: thank you for even giving it a look. I appreciate just that, immensely. I am a writer, endeavoring to commit full-time to freelance journalism, screenwriting, and playwriting. Thus far, I've never had the ability to do this full-time; financially, I just couldn't make it work. Mostly, because I'm an 'all or nothing' personality type. For writing, this can be a stellar attribute, but for balancing it with just about anything, it gets tricky. As an example: when I wait tables, I don't just wait tables. I have to know everything backwards, forwards, and sideways; take care of co-workers; usually end up as a manager; and feel very responsible for honoring the work of everyone around me. That's just... waiting tables. Imagine how I was being a Script Supervisor, or the Operations Director of a major film festival. If I'm doing something, I'm doing it all the way. Going for the jugular, every single time. And... I'm proud of that. But I want to do it for me, and my own dreams. I want to put it towards being a writer; towards writing about what it means to be human. Your support affords me a chance to do that. To be worthy of that support, I've been hard at work for the past month laying the foundation: • Medium | currently, I'm building an audience writing in-depth excavations of films, stage productions, and serials, which investigate how the filmmakers and actors went about putting flesh and bone to scripted soul. In the about section, there's a solo link that contains my intro piece for this series; • Publications | actively, I'm pitching ideas to major publications for various pieces. It takes a little while to build relationships with editors, but I'm well on my way. Eventually, this will be how I support myself; • Screenwriting & Playwriting | presently, I'm sitting in the top 38% of writers on CoverFly. I have three feature films and two plays in outlines, three adaptations that I'm pursuing, one spec for a biopic in research, and one spec episode for a television series (that already exists). One of the feature films I may alter to series format; Research, and self-education, in these focus areas, is what comprises the entirety of my day-to-day. Day in, and day out. Films, plays, books, music, online courses and programs, et al. I am an eternal student, and believe wholeheartedly, that every writer should be. An audience deserves for you to, at minimum, meet their intelligence; best you can. Do the very human work, if you want to speak to very human hearts and minds. This is what you're investing in, and I hope that I've made a strong case for it. Membership is by far the most beneficial way to support, for both of us, but tips are just as appreciated.
